Dappled light, deep greens and a hush of quiet water fill this small, atmospheric landscape oil painting by French artist Ceneri Morand (1852-1917). Signed C. Morand at the lower right, it captures a secluded woodland pond with the loose, textured brushwork that makes a painting of this period so rewarding to live with.

The scene draws the eye in. A figure in pale clothing crouches at the edge of a dark pond, absorbed in the water, while a second figure in blue stands further along the bank beside a rustic wooden rail. A simple plank footbridge crosses at the right, and a trail of warm orange earth winds through the grass in the foreground. Overhead, tall trunks and layered foliage dissolve into luminous yellow greens and cool blue shadows. The paint is applied in short, confident strokes, so the surface has real texture and movement, and the small figures give the woodland a gentle sense of story and scale.
