This full set of twelve French silver plated knife rests brings together a wonderfully varied cast of Art Deco sporting and Olympic subjects, each rest cast in high relief with a different athlete or activity in motion. Dating to circa 1925, the set was designed by Pierre Devouge and each piece is marked with his PD maker's mark.

The twelve activities represented are motor racing, motorbike racing, horse racing, boxing, wrestling, ice hockey, rugby, dance, swimming and diving, ice skating, bowling and curling, and hurdles, giving the set a genuinely encyclopedic sweep of 1920s athletic life. Each figure is rendered with the streamlined, dynamic silhouettes characteristic of French Art Deco design, capturing motion and energy within a compact tabletop form.

Each rest measures approximately 4 inches long, 2 inches high, and 1 inch wide, and the full set has a combined weight of 1066 grams, giving real substance to each individual piece. It is unusual to find a complete set of twelve surviving together, which adds considerably to its appeal.

A striking set for display on its own or in use at the table, this would make an exceptional find for a dedicated knife rest collector, a collector of French Art Deco silver, or a gift for anyone with a passion for classic sport and motor racing history.
