This vintage Hermes desk magnifier pairs a gilt brass frame and glass lens with a handle of dark, richly grained macassar ebony. A finely linked gold toned chain link is set into a groove along the side of the handle, a jewelry like detail that turns a simple reading tool into something closer to an ornament for the desk.

Made in France in the 20th century, the piece was produced by Hermes in collaboration with Maison Ravinet d'Enfert, and it carries both marks. A "Hermes Paris" inscription runs along the brass collar at the top of the handle, alongside the Ravinet d'Enfert stamp.

The lens is a generous round glass, and the gilt brass ring around it is joined to the handle by a small flared neck and a squared collar that holds the ebony in place. The gilding shows the soft, natural patina of age, and the lens edge has some light spotting, both in keeping with a well used vintage object.

Measuring 7 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, it is comfortable in the hand and handsome on a desk or shelf. A refined find for collectors of vintage Hermes or anyone who appreciates mixed material objects, with warm gilt brass, dark wood and polished chain in one compact form.

Collectors Notes

The warm brass and dark ebony make this one of the more tactile pieces in our Vintage Hermes collection, and it sits comfortably beside the other Hermes magnifiers we have carried.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
