This novelty English toast rack is a delightfully inventive piece of equestrian tableware. Two silver plated horseshoes form the frame, complete with raised nail heads and nail holes, and they stand upright on small oval hoof like feet. Between them, a row of slender silver bars creates the slots that hold the toast, while a smaller horseshoe rises at the top as a charming carrying handle.
Made in England around 1900 and marked P. G. S. England, the rack comes from the golden age of Victorian and Edwardian novelty silver plate, when makers delighted in turning everyday table objects into sporting and country themes. Horseshoes were considered symbols of good luck, which makes this piece as thoughtful as it is witty.
The silver plating is bright with a soft age patina and a few small marks consistent with more than a century of use. The construction is sturdy and the proportions are elegant, with the arched horseshoes giving the rack a graceful, sculptural profile from every side.
Measuring 6 x 3 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches, it holds slices of toast upright and crisp at the breakfast table, and works equally well for letters, napkins or cards on a desk or sideboard. A wonderful find for collectors of English silver plate, horse lovers and anyone who enjoys a bit of humor on the table.

Who Are You Buying From?
Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
